Humble Servant the Baby Boy
QUESTION: Humble Servant – The Creator Becomes a Baby BoyANSWER:It is more than our minds can fathom that the baby born to Mary and Joseph and laid to rest in the manger is the Creator of the universe, and yet that is exactly who He is. The popular Christmas song,
Mary Did You Know, written by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene, expresses beautifully the truth of who this baby boy really was. Notice especially the lines in bold type as they acknowledge not just what Jesus would do, but who He is.
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered
Will soon deliver you.
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with His hand?
Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby
You've kissed the face of God
Mary, did you know?
The blind will see
The deaf will hear
And the dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the Lamb
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know
That your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding
Is the Great I Am.Humble Servant – The Great I AM Becomes Human FleshIf you are not familiar with the meaning of this last line, go to Exodus chapter 3 and read the story of Moses and how God called him to deliver the children of Israel from the bondage of Egypt. Note especially these verses:
"Moses said to God, 'Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, "The God of your fathers has sent me to you," and they ask me, "What is his name?" Then what shall I tell them?' God said to Moses, 'I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: "I AM has sent me to you"'" (Exodus 3:13-14).
Yes, the Great I AM took on human flesh to become a humble servant for you and me. Indeed, this truth gives a whole new perspective on divine humility for those of us struggling with human pride!
